Tinnitus And You - 2 White Powdery Substances Linked To Ringing Ears
Two white crystals that can cause tinnitus? Is this some sort of joke? No, it isn't a joke, and it isn't some kind of mystical gibberish either. What we're going to talk about here is two white crystalline substances that you eat every day, which could be causing or worsening your tinnitus. Want to learn more? Keep reading.
What Are They?
Before you start worrying, we're not talking about some kind of street drug. We're talking about sugar and salt, two white crystalline substances that we eat every day. One or the other (if not both) of these are added to almost every processed food you eat. And for at least some of us, the more of these substances we consume, the worse our ears ring. Here's what we think happens.
Salt, more specifically the sodium in the salt, can increase your blood pressure. And high blood pressure is known to cause or worsen tinnitus in many people.
Sugar is a stimulant which can cause your blood vessels to constrict. This can reduce the blood flow to your ears. And reduced blood flow to the ears is known to cause or worsen tinnitus in many people. In addition, the high insulin levels that can come from chronic overconsumption of sugar can disrupt the metabolism of the cells in the inner ear, which can lead to tinnitus.
What Can You Do About It?
So what can you do about this? The answer is simple if not easy to accomplish. As much as possible, eliminate salt from your diet for a few weeks and see if there are any changes to your ears ringing. Don't forget to check the labels of the foods you buy so you can choose low sodium foods. If your tinnitus improves, you know you need to do everything you can to reduce the amount of salt in your diet.
The same strategy applies to sugar. As best you can (don't forget to check those labels) eliminate sugar from your diet for a few weeks and see how your ringing ears respond. If the results are good, you know you need to make a consistent effort to remove sugar from your diet.
