China Makes Great Efforts to The Protection of Sea Turtles
Sea turtle is the general term for the marine turtle, which belongs to reptiles. It has been living on earth about 2.5 billion years. Sea turtle has a strong living conditions and experience, so it is known as “living fossil”.
Sea turtles gradually formed a migratory habit to adapt to the changes in the environment in the long process of evolution. They grew in the rich waters and then return to the beach to breed. They can swim for a long distance, and no matter where they swim to, they are able to find the way home correctly. Turtles breed every two to four years, they can spawn three times in a breeding season. The newly hatched young sea turtles hid in the sand in the daytime, until dark they then towards the sea. The young turtles don’t have the ability of swimming and diving, they can only drift with the tide. For them, it is very dangerous in the ocean.
In recent years, with the economic development of coastal areas, marine pollution is worsening, turtles’ spawning grounds have been damaged in different degrees, all kinds of illegal hunting activities have also caused many species threatened with extinction.

As an active participant in international affairs, and to save the turtles, the Chinese government begins to establish the protected areas, and list sea turtles as the second-class protected animals, to implement a special protection.
To strengthen the protection, the Chinese government also attaches great importance to sea turtle conservation legislation. All the enactment of the laws and regulations provide an important legal basis for the protection of sea turtles.
This year is the international year of sea turtles, all countries in the world unity to protect the sea turtles resources. The government of China also focuses its effort on a nationwide publicity on a series of activities to protect turtles. The government through the image display, distribution of publicity materials and other forms to inform the public the importance of conservation and popularize the knowledge of sea turtles.
